Why someone cannot join a house

What this means

If someone cannot join a house, CoExyst is blocking the join flow because something about the invite, account, house, or subscription state needs attention.

This does not always mean the person is doing something wrong.

It usually means the app cannot safely connect that person to the house yet.

Why it works this way

Joining a house gives access to shared household data.

That can include messages, bills, shopping items, calendar events, cleaning tasks, member information, and support context. CoExyst needs to make sure the person is joining through a valid path and should actually belong to that house.

The app may also need to check whether the house can accept more members under its current plan or setup.

What you might notice

Someone may be unable to join if:

  • The invite expired
  • The invite was revoked
  • The invite was already used
  • They are signed into the wrong account
  • The house is inactive or restricted
  • The house plan does not allow another member
  • Their account already belongs to the house
  • The invite link was copied incorrectly
  • The app is offline or using stale cached data
  • There is a permissions or subscription issue

You might also see messages such as:

  • “Not authorised”
  • “Invite invalid”
  • “House not found”
  • “Unable to join”
  • “This invite is no longer available”

How to do it

To fix a join issue:

  1. Ask the person to fully close and reopen CoExyst
  2. Confirm they are signed into the correct account
  3. Send a fresh invite from Settings → House → People
  4. Ask them to open the newest invite link
  5. Check whether the house plan allows another member
  6. Check whether they already appear in the member list
  7. If the issue continues, create a support ticket and include:
    • the invite email or phone number, if used
    • the house name
    • the error message
    • a screenshot
    • whether the person is creating a new account or using an existing one
