How house invites work
A house invite lets someone join an existing CoExyst house. Instead of creating a new house, the person uses an invite link or invite flow to become a member of the house that already exists.
What this means
A house invite lets someone join an existing CoExyst house.
Instead of creating a new house, the person uses an invite link or invite flow to become a member of the house that already exists.
Once they join, they can access the parts of the app available to their role and membership status.
Why it works this way
CoExyst is built around houses, not just individual accounts.
A person can have their own account, but the shared data belongs to a specific house. Invites make sure new members are connected to the correct house, rather than accidentally creating a separate household or seeing information they should not access.
This also protects house privacy. A person should only enter a house through an approved invite path.
What you might notice
You might notice:
- An invite link opens the app or browser
- The person may need to sign in or create an account first
- The invite may show the house name before joining
- The invite may expire or become invalid
- The person’s access may depend on their assigned role
- Joining a house does not automatically make someone an admin
If the invite opens but does not complete, it may be because the invite is expired, already used, revoked, or linked to a different account than expected.
How to do it
